One of the most interesting analyses we can run on the yearly data involves finding out which were the most-sung karaoke songs of the past 12 months, since it gives us interesting clues on the evolution of the musical market and the tastes of each country.
Generally speaking, while 2014 was dominated by the global mega smash “Let It Go”, the main theme of the movie Frozen (song was released at the end of 2013), and by some other recent releases such as “All of Me” by John Legend (released in August 2013), “Royals” by Lorde (March 2013) or “Stay” by Rihanna and Mikky Ekko (January 2013), it can be confirmed that 2015 was a year for revisiting classics: the majority of songs in this year’s top 10 were released several decades ago, and only two songs from 2013 managed to remain on the list: the indestructible “Let It Go”, which continues to perform like a modern classic, and the duet “Hoy Tengo Ganas de Ti” by Alejandro Fernández and Christina Aguilera… which in reality is a cover of a Miguel Gallardo hit released in 1975.
Based on this data we can concluded that there were no new music releases in either 2014 or 2015 which generated massive interest among karaoke singers: the classics swept the charts in 2015, confirming that everything really was better in the old days, at least when it comes to the tastes of singing enthusiasts.
The only noteworthy development this year has been the indisputable success of the “A Capella” singing option in the Red Karaoke apps which was introduced at the beginning of this year and has turned into the most popular karaoke song of the year, thanks to the fact that it allows the singers to unleash their creativity, play instruments while they sing or interpret their own songs with total liberty.
